CURRICULUM
At Kindle Education, our academic program combines standards-aligned instruction with student-directed, project-based learning that connects academic content to meaningful questions and real-world challenges. Students build strong foundations in core disciplines while developing the curiosity, creativity, independence, and problem-solving skills to take ownership of their learning. Through interdisciplinary projects, authentic experiences, and our competency-based approach, students apply what they learn, reflect on their growth, and develop the knowledge, skills, and sense of purpose to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world.

6th grade introduces students to Kindle’s unique approach to learning as they build strong academic foundations and begin taking greater ownership of their education. Students experience project-based and interdisciplinary learning across their core classes and are introduced to signature Kindle experiences such as Forge, where they use design thinking, creativity, and hands-on problem-solving to explore real-world challenges. Through these experiences, sixth graders learn to ask meaningful questions, collaborate with others, reflect on their growth, and begin discovering the interests and strengths that will shape their journey at Kindle.

In 7th grade, students deepen their academic skills while continuing to develop the social-emotional and executive functioning skills that support greater independence as learners. Building on the foundations established in 6th grade, students take increasing ownership of their learning by setting goals, managing their time and responsibilities, reflecting on their progress, and making purposeful choices about how they learn. Across academic courses and project-based experiences, 7th graders strengthen their ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, navigate challenges, and advocate for themselves as learners.

In 8th grade, students deepen their academic knowledge and skills through increasingly rigorous coursework that challenges them to think critically, communicate effectively, solve complex problems, and apply their learning across disciplines. As the oldest members of Kindle’s middle school community, 8th graders also step into greater leadership roles while taking increased responsibility for setting goals, managing their work, and advocating for their needs as learners. Through challenging academics, project-based experiences, and opportunities to lead and contribute to their community, students build the knowledge, confidence, and independence they need to thrive in high school and beyond.

Kindle’s high school is continuing to grow and will ultimately serve students through 12th grade, adding one grade each year. In 9th grade, students build on the independence and academic skills developed in middle school through increasingly rigorous coursework and greater ownership of their learning. Students are introduced to Studio, an interdisciplinary, project-based course where they apply learning across disciplines to complex, real-world challenges. They also begin a high school portfolio that documents their growth, accomplishments, and learning across all four years and culminates in a portfolio defense as a graduation requirement.
